An Employer is allowed to incur the expense of providing an employee a monthly or annual bus ticket , without the employee being liable for benefit-in-kind taxation.
This is known as the TaxSaver Commuter Ticket Scheme
In short : The employer provides the employee with a monthy/annual bus pass and the employer saves on employer PRSI. Employees receive their tickets as part of their salary. Savings arise as unlike your salary, tickets are not subject to tax or PRSI therefore benefit-in-kind does not apply.
